Our sweet baby girl Arla is now two, and oh my goodness, what a bittersweet feeling that brings. She’s our only winter baby, and this year we decided on family festivities with a seasonal theme for our Frozen movie-loving girl. Arla’s winter birthday brunch fell into place with a gifted Princess Elsa dress from Christmas, remnants of holiday decorations, and some of our family’s most precious heirlooms.

Having so much of the decor already, our only expenses were food, a spool of icy blue ribbon, paper doilies for snowflakes, and a silver number two balloon.

Our saved wedding plates, cake platter, crystal water glasses, and thrifted tea cups made a special appearance. Blue toile napkins I made last year and wreaths adorned with blue velvet bows helped to tie in the theme even more. We also brought in many of our ceramic holiday village and bottle brush trees to create a scene of Arendelle in the middle of the tablescape.
For the food, we landed on pastries from our favorite local bakery here in Korea. Cream-filled croissants, savory ham & cheese breakfast rolls, fresh strawberries (already in season here!), and blueberries. Finished with a steeping pot of Earl Grey tea made up our brunch feast.
An element of our girl’s winter birthday brunch that can’t be overlooked is the cake. A memory that we keep in honor of my dad and grandmother. We now pass on the angel food birthday cake tradition as it symbolizes her journey earthside and her beloved papa’s heavenly transition, which happened just four days after her arrival.
