A glimpse of Korea in autumn, it’s only when you’re here that you realize why so many visit this time of year. Impressive foliage, delicious local eats and all the sights your eyes could behold. This is a side of Korea we got to experience for the first time, and it is a collection of memories we will never forget.
Visiting Anseong Farmland is our favorite way to kick off autumn in South Korea. This is one of the largest installations of pink muhly grass, which you can only find this time of year, and draws people from all over the peninsula. This season they also included cosmos fields in a variety gorgeous colors.
While we skip most amusement rides, we always visit and feed the animals. This location is excellent for a full day of fun, and we even pack a lunch on occasion, which you can bring on the grounds, to stretch our day of activities even more.
Spending a weekend in Gapyeong, we learned of its popularity this time of year, and the views of changing leaves are genuinely spectacular. But beyond the fall foliage and gorgeous sights, Gapyeong is also an excellent area for food and amusement. The perfect checklist for a family adventure with a little something to be enjoyed by all.

Hiking in Korea is an absolute must and especially in the fall. The temps finally cool down after summer, and the trees transform into something out of a picture book. The hiking ranges from advanced treks to family-friendly and can be enjoyed immensely with little children. It’s been one of our top exploration and learning activities here, and you can almost always bet on a delicious local eatery just down from the trails.
This year for my birthday, we revisited a hike we did in early summer—spending most of our day next to the river. We finished our trip in Arrowroot Noodle Village (a delicacy for the area), where we had the arrowroot noodle bibimbap and sampled the acorn jelly. A hearty favorite at the end of an already fantastic day.
Apple picking was always a big tradition for us while living back in the U.S., and I was curious if we could continue the tradition here in Korea. Thanks to a friend previously stationed here with her family, we were able to connect to a gorgeous apple orchard and winery.
We went during the week, allowing us to skip crowds and nearly have the entire place to ourselves. They provide the most darling baskets so we didn’t have to bring our own and the prices were fair given the incredible product. Afterward, we briefly toured the inside, where the moms could sample the apple wine made on-site, and I picked up a bottle of their apple brandy which I’ve been using in my cooking ever since.
